A look back at Rudy Chapa

Running
I was reading about the famous Penn Relays, when for some reason Rudy Chapa's name popped into my head. Decided to do a Google and see what had happened to Rudy. Here's an interesting article, catching up with Rudy Chapa, an Indiana running phenom. I remember him when I was coaching cross country at a nearby H.S. in Indiana, back in the 70's. This kid and some of his teammates at Hammond High could really blast - was always a thrill to see them run. Rudy still holds the 10,000 meter H.S. record, set in 1976. Plus, it sounds like his kid is turning out out to be a heck of a runner, as well. And his mom was a sprinter and high jumper at Indiana, so that definitely makes them great in my book. :)

Health
Researchers show cystic fibrosis defect in mice corrected with turmeric extract A possible new cure for CF? Wouldn't that be something? From just a common spice. I had a good friend many years ago, who had to watch his daughter die of this at the age of 14. He and his wife helped her clear her lungs every night for every day of her life - she was a very nice kid, with a great spirit. Damn shame, that something like this hadn't come along then. Still too early to know about this spice (hasn't been tested on humans), but sure would be nice if it worked for the majority of people suffering this disease.

Get a $100 off!

You still have till the 30th of April to sign up for a year's worth of service at Audible.com and get $100 off of a PocketPC or a PalmPilot (you could get a Zire 71 for $99 at Amazon with this offer) or various mp3 players, including the Apple Ipod (there's even the opportunity at Amazon to get a Handspring Treo 600 with $270 in rebates plus the $100 Audible discount) Along with that you get 2 audio books per month for $20/month (or choose 1 audio book for $15/month), a real deal when audio books in bookstores run between $25-50 each. If you decide you still don't want to shell out the money for one of those devices even with a $100 discount, you can still sign up and get a free Otis Player, which will play audible books as well as mp3 and wma music. I use an Otis player myself and they are excellent. Click the ad at the top of this web page to learn more.
